A few of the
local activities...
GOLF
With the mildest climate in Canada, you can golf
year round on Vancouver Island. Arbutus Ridge Golf
and Country Club is only 5 minutes away. Par 71, 18
hole championship course with stunning views.
Lessons, dining room and lounge, weddings and indoor
tennis courts.
PARKS AND BIRDING
Two of our favourite ocean side parks are Manley
Creek and Cherry Point Nature Reserve. Wonderful for
walking, beach combing (at low tide) a picnic, bird
watching and a photographers delight. Only 4-6
minutes in each direction of Valley Meadows. There
are two walks that you can take from each park, 8.6
km or a shorter 5.8 km loop.
SOMENOS MARSH
Located just north of Duncan on Trans Canada
Highway. Over 200 species of birds can be found in
the Somenos area including rare species such as the
Red Throated Loon, Tundra Swan, Eurasian Widgeon,
Great Egret, Tufted Duck, Rough Legged Hawk and
Bohemian Waxwing.
WINERIES
Valley Meadows sits in the heart of the growing wine
trail in the Cowichan Region. Twenty minutes to six
different wineries all with a unique and charming
experience. They offer tours, tasting and local
cuisine.
DIVING
Vancouver Islands cold clean waters offer divers
excellent visibility, numerous shipwrecks and close
encounters with big marine life. Off the coast of
Chemainus is the newly sunk Boeing 737. The reef it
is creating is called Xihuw Reef. Readers of Scuba
Diving magazine recently named British Columbia as
the top overall dive destination in North America.
COWICHAN BAY
Spend the day wandering around this seaside village.
Sailboats, fishing , kayaking and whale watching.
Play tennis on Canada's only lawn tennis club. Lots
of shops and restaurants over looking the water.
Visit the Cowichan Wooden Boat Society and Maritime
Centre or the estuary for some wildlife viewing.
